JTET - J2 Round 25 Review

After a busy midweek of J2 action, Jon Steele looks back on the 11 games from Wednesday night (Round 25), & briefly previews this Sunday's fixtures (Round 26).

In midweek, there was a win for bottom side FC Ryukyu, and mixed fortunes for the top three in the table - defeat for Niigata, a last-gasp draw for Yokohama FC, and a comfortable home win for Sendai.

Elsewhere, Machida and Mito produced a five-goal thriller, draw specialists Tokushima drew, and Omiya... well, you'd better listen to find out.

FC Tokyo Kai-Guys Radio Episode 5 - Albert Puig Interview

We hope you've already checked this out on the FC Tokyo Kai-Guys YouTube channel, and now we are very pleased to present the podcast version of the interview that Thomas and Alex conducted recently with FC Tokyo manager, Albert Puig.

In this fascinating conversation, Albert outlines his football philosophy and vision for taking FC Tokyo forward, while amongst other topics he also discusses the time he first met Takefusa Kubo (during his time at Barcelona), and Tokyo's latest starlet, Kuryu Matsuki.

Episode 422 - Chris from J.League Journeys, J1 Matchday 19

After a check on recent player transfer and managerial news (to 9:15), we were thrilled to be joined by Chris, one half of the brilliant J.League Journeys duo, for his thoughts on Shimizu's 30th Anniversary match against Yokohama F.Marinos on Saturday night, and the National Stadium, the venue for what was undoubtedly the game of the season so far (to 36:00).

With F.Marinos in such imperious form, their challengers are finding it hard to keep up: Kashima were again not at their best but managed to edge past Kashiwa away; while Kawasaki are now anxiously looking over their shoulder at Hiroshima, after their poor recent run continued away at Cerezo Osaka, and Sanfrecce cruised past Iwata at home.

Elsewhere Kobe beat Tosu (again) and Lukian scored for Fukuoka against FC Tokyo (again), while from the same game we have a new frontrunner for goal of the season after Kazuya Konno's wonder strike. From VAR controversy to red card decisions we've never seen before, you name it, J1 Matchday 19 had it.

JTET J2 MD24 & J3 MD 15

James Taylor reviews the J2 games from the weekend, when 8 of the 11 were away wins, but bottom 2 Omiya and Ryukyu couldn’t get anything from their travels. There’s a preview of Wednesday night’s J2 games too. As ever, Mike Innes rounds up all the weekend’s J3 action in J-Talk: Short Corner, including Imabari’s biggest ever J.League win.

JTET - J2 Round 23 / J3 Round 14 Review

Fashionably late this week (sorry!), the JTET gang look back over another interesting weekend in J2 & J3.

In Part 1, Jon Steele was joined by James Taylor to review a trio of big matches from last weekend in J2:

01:10 to 14:00 - JEF Chiba v Tokyo Verdy

14:00 to 25:00 - Sendai v Yamagata

25:00 to 37:00 - Ryukyu v Machida

After that, Jon reviews the rest of the J2 action solo (37:20 to 47:30), before rejoining James to preview all of the upcoming Round 24 action (47:30 to 54:00).

Following all of the J2 chat, Mike 'The Magic' Innes in on hand to review the latest J3 action (54:30 to Finish), answer listener questions, and preview the upcoming Round 15 fixtures in the third tier.

Episode 421 - J1 Matchday 18

The summer heat was really cranked up over the weekend, and the pace that Yokohama F.Marinos set in their 4-0 win over Kashiwa that opened the Matchday 18 slate on Saturday proved too hot to handle for their main title rivals Kashima and Kawasaki, and with guest Scott McIntyre, we praise the leaders and their coach Kevin Muscat after they stretched their advantage at the top of the table to three points (to 29:30).

Then there's more positive buzz for the coaching jobs Michael Skibbe and Kenta Kawai have done at Hiroshima and Tosu respectively, while further down the table Urawa edged out of the bottom six and Shonan out of the bottom three after late drama at Kobe and Kyoto on Sunday.

JTET - Emperor’s Cup Round 3 Review

After a busy midweek of Emperor's Cup action, Jon Steele and James Taylor look back over the Round 3 ties that included J2 participants.

In Part 1, Jon reviews the games featuring Kanto-based teams (more or less), including shocks for five J1 sides.

In Part 2, James picks up the rest of the schedule, including Kanazawa's tie against Nagoya (which I believe he attended, the lucky chap).

FC Tokyo Kai-Guys Radio Episode 4 - Sensible Signings

The FC Tokyo Kai-Guys are back on the air with a keen eye on the midseason transfer window. In their latest episode Alex Bishop lists some potential targets as FC Tokyo look to bolster up their roster.

Episode 420 - J1 Matchday 17

J1 returned after the international break on Saturday with great goals and baffling officiating, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

We begin by chatting about the wins for Yokohama F.Marinos and Kashima (to 14:30), before Neil Debnam hops on board for a therapy session on the current state of Kawasaki - 5-2 winners over Sapporo on Saturday evening, but things are clearly not 'right' at the two-time defending champions (to 53:25).

From there we discuss Kashiwa and Hiroshima keeping the pressure on the top three as both won for the third straight game, then head down to the foot of the table where things tightened up after Shimizu and Shonan both claimed important home victories.
