Episode 328 - Maeda Eats Shoots and Leaves

Naoki Maeda and Nagoya Grampus ripped up our agenda after a stunning first half display at home against Urawa on Saturday night, Maeda getting plenty of opportunities to practice his Ultraman poses in celebration as Reds were left scratching their heads.

Then (from 15:30) Lionel Piguet returns to the pod to chat a particularly mixed weekend for the three Kansai clubs - after he was pitchside snapping photos for JSoccer Magazine at two of the games - Gamba buoyant after Patric's late, late heroics, Cerezo fail to fire in Tokyo stalemate, and Kobe surprise no one by falling at home to lowly Sendai (to 49:20).

Stuart Woodward joins us next to discuss Yokohama F.Marinos becoming the latest J1 team to be Olunga'd, in a 1-1 draw against Kashiwa at a near capacity (kind of) Nissan Stadium, before (from 1:19:40) Sam and Ben wrap up the other four Matchday 9 results.

J-Talk: Extra Time - Second Period

With huge apologies from me (Stuart) about the late timing for this - it was me that couldn't fix my schedule in order to talk J3 with Jon.

Saturday night and I like the way you move, Ryota Oshima. OK, doesn't quite have the same ring to it as Divock Origi, but the Kawasaki midfield maestro was the star of the show at the Panasonic Stadium, as his stunning strike settled the top of the table clash in visiting Frontale's favour, and Neil Debnam and Jonny Nicol join Sam and Ben for a breakdown of key moments in the game (to 33:17).

 

Then your regular co-hosts discuss the other eight Matchday 8 results in a remarkable round that saw all but one game end in an away win.

Episode 326 - J1 Matchdays 6 & 7

After a huge week in J1 both on and off the pitch, Dan Orlowitz and Scott McIntyre return with star guest turns.

In Part 1 (to 13:30) Dan fills us in on the latest (at the time of recording on Monday night) at Nagoya Grampus, whose Matchday 7 fixture away at Hiroshima was postponed after two more players and a member of staff tested positive for COVID-19. This story remains fluid, and Nagoya's Matchday 8 fixture remains in doubt - be sure to follow Dan on Twitter for updates.

Then Scott joins us to discuss leaders Kawasaki after they notched two come from behind victories in the past week, and we wonder if second-placed Gamba Osaka, who zipped up the table after an impressive week of their own, will offer Frontale a sterner test when the top two clash this coming Saturday.  From there we move on to FC Tokyo and Cerezo Osaka after their pair of draws, before we stretch our leg(s) (at 52:47) and finish with a flourish, chatting about Matchday 7 wins for Urawa, Kashiwa, Sapporo and Shimizu.
